That sounds like a Home School Co-op.
In a co-op, several families will join to “co-operate” on teaching some classes. Usually at least one of the parents has a specialty, for example, biology. That parent might agree to teach one class and do a lab or other enrichment activity each week, but the kids still have “homework” to go and read the book and answer questions on their own.

Programs like the one you are asking about are usually local or might serve one just two or three counties. You would need to ask around the local support groups to see if one is available near you.

There are a handful of larger more long-established organizations like this, but they are rare. Here is one: http://www.thekingsacademy.org/
They offer classical style homeschooling and have a lot of the “extras” like sports and foreign language–things that it might be hard for parents to do alone.

    I forgot to mention University-Model Schools®
These are college-prep schools and usually meet two days a week for high school, sixth grade might be two only half days, and kindergarten might be just a couple hours a week.

Here is a link to the national association: http://www.naums.net/index2.html
You can find a list of existing ones there.

If you mean through the public schools, that sound like home bound, which is when one has a medical condition that keeps them from attending school.

Some homeschool co-ops do operate that way as mentioned in the previous answer. Depending on the education laws where you live there are also 1,2 or 3 day a week schools that operate either as private schools or homeschool co-op or tutoring centers. Many of these are christian school programs.

In California our district has Independent Study, where you meet once a week. If you are used to home school, this isn’t for you. It is all text books. Call your district alternative education dept.

It actually sounds like an independent study program in a public school. You would have to ask your school if they offer independent study. If your school offers independent study, you would be assigned a teacher who is responsible for supervising your independent study. They would assign work and due dates you would be responsible for meeting these deadlines and reporting to the teacher as directed. During your meeting times you can ask questions you may have, the teacher may discuss material you are learning, and/or give you tests/quizzes.
When doing independent study, you are still a public school student and under the rules and regs of your public school system even though you are doing work outside of the classroom.
